Why so many different sizes?
Each size is used by a specific device or application. It is better to prepare the file of the required size yourself than to allow applications to scale the favicons for themselves. Applications can take a favicon of 48 pixels and shrink it to 36, but due to imperfection of scaling algorithms, such a favicon will be of poor quality. And we take the original, large 512×512 file and shrink it to 36 pixels in this case, the favicon will be much better. The same applies to the situation when a 180x180 pixel file is taken and shrinks to 144.
What are the advantages of our service
- We save the favicon.ico file in PNG format, not ICO. The file name itself remains the original “favicon.ico”, but its format is PNG. Due to the fact that the PNG file is compressed, we save up to 10 KB compared to the ICO format.
- Usually the favicon.ico file is made 16x16 pixels in size. But for 4k monitors you need a size of 32x32. That’s why we use it.
- When uploading the original image file in SVG format, we try to use it wherever possible. This guarantees maximum quality when using the favicon.
- All files are minified by special programs to reduce the size without loss of quality.
Other nuances of favicons
